Rising Tide floods the Australian Energy Producers Conference

28 May 2025

BRISBANE - Rising Tide climate activists have today disrupted the Australian Energy Producers conference in Brisbane to highlight that more new gas will condemn Australian communities to more unnatural, climate change linked disasters.

Four activists unfurled banners in the conference venue reading “More Gas =  More Floods, More Droughts” while six others sat in the exhibition hall with banners calling for no new gas expansions, including the proposed Woodside North West Shelf expansion in Western Australia.

Dr Linda Selvey, Honorary Associate Professor of Public Health, said:

“We are already experiencing impacts of climate change on our health. These include hospitalisations and deaths from the impacts of more frequent, severe and prolonged heat waves, increased risk of mosquito-borne diseases, the risks of injuries and death from more frequent and severe extreme weather events, and impacts on our mental health, particularly for younger people.”

“Gas is not a clean transition fuel, it is a dirty fossil fuel that will keep our emissions soaring at the very time we need to rapidly reduce them. Burning gas in our homes also increases the risk of asthma and other lung conditions.

“We want the companies and individuals participating in the Australian Energy Producers Conference to know that we will keep demanding a safer climate future without new fossil fuels”.
