Rising Tide climate protestor shuts down Sky News interview with Senator Michaelia Cash and Liberal Candidate for Brisbane Trevor Evans, attacking nuclear policy

22nd April 2025

BRISBANE - Climate protesters from Rising Tide forced Senator Michaelia Cash and Liberal Candidate for Brisbane Trevor Evans to abandon a Sky News interview on the first day of pre-poll in Brisbane today. Natalie, from Rising Tide, held a banner that said “NO NEW NUCLEAR AND GAS” and asked the pair: “Aren’t you concerned about the toxic waste for our children?” saying that nuclear is “too risky, too costly, too late.”

Both politicians refused to answer Natalie’s questions, and they were forced to abandon the interview.

Footage can be viewed here.

Rising Tide protestors have relentlessly interrupted press conferences from the leaders of both major parties in the last few weeks. They’ve posed questions to the Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor and Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy Ted O’Brien about the viability of their nuclear energy plans. Rising Tide protestors have also asked Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen when Labor will stop approving new coal and gas projects.
