Community Code of Care & Participant Agreement

Rising Tide Sydney Action Camp
Addison Road Community Centre, Marrickville, Friday 15th - Sunday 17th August 2025

The invitation to attend or volunteer at this community gathering is grounded in our shared commitment to this agreement. Anyone who breaches it may be reminded of our values, asked to reflect, and, if needed, asked to leave.

We are coming together to learn, share, celebrate, and strengthen our collective capacity for climate justice, solidarity, and community care. Together, we stand in peaceful resistance to systems that harm people and the planet, building a movement rooted in respect, inclusion, and collective well-being.

This agreement is a living guide to how we look after one another - facilitating a safe, inclusive, and respectful space for all. It is an invitation to care for each other, act with integrity, and honour the spirit of non-violence in our words, actions, and relationships.

By attending, volunteering, or working at this community event hosted by Rising Tide Sydney (“the Organisers”), I acknowledge and agree to the following:

First Nations sovereignty
I acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather. I pay my respects to Elders past and present and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. I commit to acting in ways that respect and honour this ongoing connection to Country.

Voluntary participation, safety, and personal responsibility
I choose to participate voluntarily in all activities, including seminars, workshops, food preparation, community meals, and social events. I understand these activities may involve physical, emotional, or psychological challenges or risks. I accept full responsibility for my own safety, well-being, and physical limits while attending this event. I will take reasonable care of myself and others, including not leaving children unattended, comply with event guidelines, and notify the Organisers if I have any health conditions that may affect my participation. I acknowledge that the Organisers, venue staff, and volunteers are not responsible for any injury, illness, emotional distress, or other harm arising from my participation.

Respect, inclusion, and community conduct

I recognise that my actions and words reflect on the group as a whole and the wider movement. I will act with compassion, care, and respect towards others at all times. I will not use violence, threats, harassment, or discriminatory language or behaviour, including sexism, racism, classism, ableism, transphobia, or homophobia. I will respect personal space and boundaries, seeking consent before physical contact, and will notice how much space I take up in conversations, making room for voices that are heard less often. I will treat all people, facilities, and the environment with care, clean up after myself, help maintain shared spaces, and reduce waste where possible. If conflict arises, I will seek support from an event coordinator or safety contact rather than escalating the situation.

Food and alcohol

Meals are provided by volunteers and external groups and may include food sourced from community donations or dumpster diving. I accept all food at my own risk and understand that the Organisers do not guarantee food safety. Organisers will label allergens but participants should take responsibility for their own allergies and communicate to Organisers before accepting food. Alcohol may be available at some events; I agree to drink responsibly and understand that the Organisers do not accept liability for harm caused by alcohol consumption.

Program and engagement

I will do my best to arrive on time and participate constructively in sessions I attend. If I need to step out or swap sessions, I will do so quietly to minimise disruption. I will respect quiet times in shared spaces when requested.

Release of liability:

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release and hold harmless Rising Tide Sydney, Addison Road Organisation, event volunteers, staff, and partners from any claims, demands, or causes of action arising out of my participation.

By attending or volunteering, I acknowledge I have read, understood, and agree to this Participant Agreement.
