Protest Centennial Coal AGM

Protest Centennial Coal Annual General Meeting.

9.15 am Friday November 24

Menzies Hotel, 14 Carrington St Sydney (behind Wynyard Station)

We must act now on climate change. Coal is a major cause of climate change. The expansion of the coal industry in will fuel the world's greenhouse gases.

Join us to stop Centennial's huge new coal mine at Anvil Hill and demand an end to Australia's coal addiction.

Australia exports more than a third of the world's coal and is the world's largest exporter of black coal. The greenhouse gas emissions produced as a result of our exports are as great as Australia's total emissions from all other sources.

In the next twenty years the coal industry plans to double Australia's coal exports.

We need to challenge the domestic and export coal industry if we are to end climate change.

Centennial Coal is one of Australia's biggest coal companies; they are the major supplier to the New South Wales energy industry, fuelling 47% of the State's coal-fired electricity. They also sell a third of their coal into the export market. Coal is exported to Japan, Korea, India, Europe and South America.

Centennial Coal is planing to expand coal production with the open cut Anvil Hill mine destroying Hunter Valley bushland.

Already 20% of the Hunter is taken up by coal mines, and community opposition to new mine proposals like Anvil Hill is growing.
