Take the pledge - stop Newcastle coal export expansion
We encourage you to visit www.loader.take-action.org.au , take the pledge, and send a clear message to the NSW Government and the coal lobby that the community will not sit by and allow them to condemn the world to catastrophic climate change. If you take the pledge, your name and email address will be collected and you will be invited to peaceful direct action protests in Newcastle in coming months. The pledge has already been taken by Greens parliamentarians Kerry Nettle and Lee Rhiannon. More information about the campaign against the doubling of the world's biggest coal port can be found on the new website, and on this one - www.risingtide.org.au When faced with an overwhelming problem and a government unwilling or unable to take action to solve the problem, it is the duty of all citizens to take action on the community’s behalf. We will take action against these coal projects on behalf of our children, and for all those species that will be pushed to extinction by climate change. We cannot sit helplessly by and watch our Government bow down to the coal industry and condemn the word to climate chaos. The community has tried to prevent the expansion of Newcastle coal exports through legitimate means. We have written letters and submissions. We have met with politicians, and we have made presentations to the so-called “independent expert panel” that the NSW Government appointed to assess the third coal terminal proposal. In the face of clear opposition from the community, the NSW Government has bowed to pressure from the coal lobby and approved the massive expansion of Newcastle coal exports. They have left us with no alternative but to stop the expansion of coal exports ourselves. Rising Tide Newcastle is collecting the names and contact details of people who take the on-line pledge, and will be inviting them to peaceful direct action protests in the near future. |
